Who allots public IP Addresses? IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) is responsible for
By the way, Jon Postel was incharge for iana until 1998. He was the RFC editor also. When the Internet grew large, a new orgianization was formed for the purpose of management of ip address space. It is ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Numbers and Names). Here, the confusion is, IANA was NOT abolished. It still works but under the control of ICANN. If the questions is like this: Who assigns public ip addresses? A) IEEE B) IETF C) ICANN D) Stanford University. The answer is ICANN.
